Doors Open Baltimore

Click here to register as a volunteer. You’ll need to provide us with contact information and your availability on Saturday, October 22. Starting at the beginning of October, the Doors Open Baltimore Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you via email with your site assignment and day-of logistics information. We need 200 volunteers this year to help us staff each of 60 sites, so please encourage your friends to volunteer as well. Volunteer registration closes on October 1st.

Volunteers are typically assigned to one four-hour shift to help out in a variety of ways, which may include:

• Greeting visitors, managing lines, asking visitors to sign up for the DOB mailing list
• Helping count participants
• Assisting with crowd control

All volunteers must abide by our Volunteer Code of Conduct which is found below.

We have three volunteer shifts available – the morning (9am-1pm), the afternoon (12pm-4pm) and all day (9am-4pm.)  You can select your preferred time on the volunteer registration form. Volunteers should plan to arrive at the Maryland Historical Society at the start of their shift to pick up your thank you items.

Doors Open Baltimore sites fall into four categories – Culture & Community, Historic & Adaptive Reuse, Museums & Galleries and Sacred Spaces. You can indicate on the volunteer form which type of site you would prefer and we will try our best to match you with a site that is of interest to you. Placement at a specific site can not be guaranteed.

Absolutely! On your registration form, you can indicate the name of a friend with whom you would like to volunteer, and we will do our best to place you together. Spread the word, and tell a friend about volunteering at DOB!

Most volunteers drive themselves to the headquarter site and then to their assigned location. If you plan to take public transit to get to your site, please indicate that in the comment section on your registration form. We will do your best to assign you to a site that is transit accessible.

This year instead of hosting in person training sessions all volunteers will need to watch a quick 10 minute video that will explain your duties and responsibilities as a volunteer. The link to this video will be provided to you when you receive your assignment.

All volunteers will receive a snack bag to get you through your shift, a cool Doors Open t-shirt and the unending appreciation of the planning committee. This event is not possible with the help of volunteers like you.
